Klonopin

Klonopin (clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine medicine intended for the treatment of anxiety and a number of other conditions as prescribed by your doctor. Its effects are based on restoring the balance of chemicals in the brain therefore treating certain health conditions and helping to keep them under control. A tablet of Klonopin is supposed to be taken whole without crushing it, with a full glass of water to make sure the tablet is not going to get stuck in your throat. If you are taking the orally disintegrating tablet of Klonopin, make sure you take the tablet with dry clean hands and place it in your mouth as soon as possible. Your health care provider will probably want to test the function of your liver. To make sure your treatment is going as planned, you will have to show up for regular appointments for your condition to be monitored. Klonopin is likely to cause some mild side effects, especially at the beginning of your treatment. The following side effects are possible: memory problems, insomnia, drowsiness, headache, constipation, dizziness, skin rash, diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose, and nausea. You do not have to report them unless they get really bothersome. Serious side effects are possible, and you need to watch for them very carefully to make sure they do not occur, preventing you from carrying on with your normal activities. The following side effects are supposed to be reported: thoughts of suicide, hallucinations, pounding heartbeats, hostility, easy bruising, shallow breathing, worsening seizures, agitation, pale skin, and confusion. Notify your health care provider about them as soon as you can to prevent them from getting worse and affecting the success of your treatment. Make sure your doctor is aware of the fact you are taking any of the following medications, as this may affect the dosage you are prescribed: psychiatric disorder meds, antifungals, antidepressants, propantheline, barbiturates, or MAO inhibitors. If you are taking several of these medications, or are using any herbal products, make sure you make a list for your doctor to see. It will be a lot faster and easier for your health care provider to prescribe a dose of Klonopin that is not going to interfere with the dose of that other medicine that may potentially cause an interaction. You are not supposed to share this medication with other people and always store it in some place where it will not be accessed by children or other people to whom it was not prescribed.
